Letter from Octavus |

Dear Friend,
I have seen firsthand the wonderful, innovative things that are happening at Sallie B Howard School – things I never had the opportunity to do as a kid.
I come from very humble beginnings in Wilson, but I worked very hard to achieve what I have. Many successful people from Wilson leave and never return. I don’t want to be that person. I want to be an inspiration to others – someone people can reach out and touch.
As I return to Wilson, I see the city has grown and prospered in many ways. But then I look at the old neighborhood, and it’s still the same. I see new businesses and new people in the region, but I also see a lot of poverty, hopelessness and division.
However, Sallie B Howard School gives me hope. I see bright and very talented young people there working hard to achieve. This is why I’m lending my time and name to support Sallie B. Howard’s vision. I want to see them achieve their goals of establishing an endowment fund so the school will be around for many years to come. I have firmly stepped in to help in all the ways that I can and I have brought along my friends and colleagues as well.
Now, I ask you to join us in helping Wilson’s future by partnering as a sponsor for this tournament.
You can also join as a team player. We welcome your participation.
Sincerely,
Octavus Barnes |
