Elementary Assistant Principal

Sallie B. Howard School of Arts and Science — a free, public charter school serving over 1,000 K-12 students in Wilson, NC – is seeking an experienced administrator to serve as K-5 assistant principal. The AP will assist the principal in developing and implementing policies, programs, budgets, activities and curriculum in a manner that enhances student achievement and promotes professional development among staff.

Ideal candidates should have a master’s degree in administration, a valid NC Principal’s license and proven success in school leadership and administration.

Additional Requirements:

  • A Master’s degree, with a major in administration.
  • A valid license in administration (a NC Principal’s license).
  • At least three-five (3-5) years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development of an effective professional learning community aligned with the school improvement plan, focused on results.
  • Assist in planning, developing, coordinating and evaluating the operations of the school. Conceptualize the broad goals and vision of the school and plan accordingly to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the total school program.
  • Help maintain up-to-date student performance data to evaluate student progress in the instructional program. Supervise and appraise the performance of the school staff in accordance with state and local requirements.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to communicate with school personnel, students, parents, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide leadership and to supervise the planning, development and establishment of new, modified or improved programs, services and activities.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality requirements in local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by the Principal.
