Science teacher and Biotechnology Instructor

Sallie B. Howard School for the Arts & Education — a free, public charter school serving over 1,000 K-8 students in Wilson, NC (with a high school opening in 2020) – is seeking a Science Teacher and Biotechnology Instructor to join our high school Biotechnology program.

Ideal candidates should hold a Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a life science from a regionally accredited institution. Previous teaching experience and a current teaching certificate are required.

The chosen instructor will teach the standard high school science curriculum for grades 9-12 as well as train and prepare students for future careers in Biotechnology and related sciences. Applicants should maintain a high standard of excellence and have a passion for providing students with relevant Biotechnology and science experiences that will deepen their understanding of this rapidly-evolving industry.

Necessary skills include:
  • Demonstrate lab work experience in the Biotechnology / Pharmaceutical / Biotech industry or Academia.
  • Develop and foster program partnerships with stakeholders including those in education, industry/corporations, and government.
  • Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities.
  • Attend biotech teacher professional development workshops and conferences. 
  • Experience with Cleanroom Gowning, GMP, and SOP writing
  • Experience with Teaching, and Training in a secondary setting.
  • Creating and delivering training curriculum and current biotechnology practices.
  • A passion for student learning.
