No. Sallie B Howard is a free public charter school funded by tax dollars just as traditional public schools are funded. We do require parents to purchase official SBH School attire for students to wear in compliance with school uniform policy.
Charter schools are publicly funded elementary and/or secondary schools that have been contracted by the State Board of Education to give families a choice in public education. This is an experiment in educational reform that was passed into law in North Carolina by the legislature in 1996/97.
No. SBH is an independently operated charter school.
SBH currently offers Kindergarten through eighth grade. SBH High school will open August2020.
Yes. School bus transportation is provided for any student living in Wilson County. Students living outside the county will provide their own transportation. We have silent rides for student safety and students are not permitted to utilize electronics while on the bus.

In order to change a student’s address you must provide the office with two proofs of residence showing street or road address from the following list.

  • Property tax records
  • Copies of the mortgage documents or copies of deed to property
  • Copy of the residential lease
  • Copy of utility bill (electric, gas, water or cable)
  • Copy of current driver’s license
  • Copy of voter registration form
  • Automobile registration
Yes. Our school participates in the Federal School Lunch Program. Students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch meals regardless on family income. We operate as a Community Eligibility Program that qualifies us to serve all students free meals.

Yes. Every student at SBH is required to be in uniform each day.

Uniform Policy

  • Pants: Navy blue long pants/ shorts (Middle School students may wear khaki pants also)
  • Female students are not permitted to wear pants with the leggings style of material
  • Shirts: Red knit polo/golf shirt (short or long sleeve) with official SBH monogram *Must be purchased from the school
  • Shoes: Sneakers or boots of any color, with no-marking (no scuff marks) soles. Black sole shoes must be non scuff, no marking soles. No open toe/open heel shoes
  • Socks: Navy, black, or white socks
  • Belts: Black or brown belts must be worn with trousers.
  • Coats: Only the official SBH jacket can be worn in the classrooms *Must be purchased from the school
Yes. The cost of tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. It is our policy that students must be with a responsible adult in order to attend an evening performance. We also have special pricing on our morning shows for groups such as daycares, churches, senior centers or any other group type with 15 or more attendees. Please contact the office for group pricing.
