Dance Teacher

Dance Teacher

Sallie B. Howard School of Arts & Science – a K-12 free public charter school established in Wilson, N.C. in 1997 – is looking to hire two (2) professional and experienced dance teachers to join our award-winning Dance Dept.

The SBH Dance Dept. is a competitive dance program, training 2nd – 12th grade students in ballet, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip-hop and acrobatics. We have an opening for an instructor specializing in ballet and a second opening for an instructor with expertise in jazz dance. Ideal candidates should possess in-depth knowledge and application of techniques in these respective areas while demonstrating mastery in at least one more dance style as well as knowledge of dance terminology and choreography.

The hired dance teachers must be open to teaching students in all grade levels, from elementary to high school. They will work as a team to drive the Dance program with the vision of feeding the upper classes by molding and shaping dancers from a young age while propelling students to careers in the art form.

These two teachers will produce three major annual events for the school: one winter performance, one dance festival and collaborate with the school musical. In addition to school events, the dance team is expected to take students to dance competitions, festivals and parades. SBH is often invited to participate in community events which may be approved at the instructors’ discretion.

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
  • Possession of valid teaching license or eligibility for it, a plus.
  • Minimum of 1+ year of dance instruction experience.
  • A videography or montage of previous choreography work is required.

Competitive salary and benefits.
