Kindergarten Teacher

Sallie B. Howard School of Arts and Science — a K-12 National Blue Ribbon public charter school in Wilson, NC – has an immediate opening for a licensed elementary school instructor to teach Kindergarten. Ideal candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Early Childhood Education or a related field with proven instructional success in the classroom and experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach a standards-based curriculum in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies
  • Help students develop their basic reading and writing skills as they learn the alphabet
  • Teach students numeracy
  • Lead activities to encourage social and emotional growth
  • Evaluate student progress both socially and academically, communicating with parents or guardians when appropriate
  • Maintain a nurturing and structured classroom environment

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a closely related field
  • Completion of a student teaching internship
  • State teaching license or credential
  • Experience as a kindergarten teacher or assistant (at least 2 years preferred)
  • Bilingual communication skills a plus
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage a classroom of young students
